Your new Instagram size guide
Love the new Insta glow up? OR longing for the OG squarenessβ¦.Or maybe you havenβt even had the update yet! π
Either way, there could be a lot of (confusing) info to process around the new sizing that rolled out over the weekendβ¦
Simply, our profiles and feeds are moving from the classic 1:1 square format to a vertical portrait format. That means your images and videos will be showcased with less cropping and more of the vertical magic.
A change thatβs great for giving us more content βreal estateβ on the feed but it does mean youβll need to tweak how you design your posts.
Hopefully, this guide will help you understand it all and make for a pain-free transitionβ¦
This is what your grid will look like once you receive the update.
New portrait size
All posts and carousel content should be created using the new portrait dimensions 4:5 or 1080 x 1350 px
Other things to note:
βοΈ Unfortunately itβs not possible to change back to square sizing if you have the update. You can adjust your content using the new βadjust previewβ feature
π£ PSA this feature isnβt perfect but itβs a start! Really hoping they will introduce background colour options soon π€
βοΈ Please donβt feel you need to change all of your βsquareβ content to the new sizing. Only focus on your top 9 posts that are visible, any pinned posts or any offers / services you are promoting at the moment
βοΈ Reels and Stories are the same size - 1080 x 1920 or 9:16. No changes there (phew!). Just have the new sizes in mind when creating covers for your reels
βοΈ Set your camera to take pics in portrait mode if possible
βοΈ If you use a design app like Canva create a design template in the portrait size (1080x1350) and remember to keep the left and right margins clear for βsquish spaceβ
